A dedicated first stage such as the Dive Rite Suit Inflation Regulator allows a more precise volume of gas to be added to the suit as they are tuned to a lower interstage pressure than a normal first stage. As they only need to provide low pressure gas the valve can also be much smaller, reducing bulk and weight which helps to improve streamlining.
