DIR Zone Submersible Pressure Gauges

These gauges from DIR Zone are made from heavy duty brass casings finished off with a mineral glass face for optimum scratch protection. Four different gauges are available 52mm and 62mm 300 bar versions, a 52mm 400 bar version and a 52mm 360 bar oxygen version for specific applications. Typically the 62mm version is used on back gas as it makes finding it easier when when using stage bottles whilst the smaller gauges are used on stage/deco bottles or single cylinders where weight is a concern and a small gauge creates minimal clutter.

DIR Zone SPG features:

  • Brass gauge with heavy duty chrome plating
  • Mineral glass face of optimum scratch resistance
  • All gauges come with a swivel pin
  • 52mm and 63mm 300 bar version suitable for 232 bar cylinders
  • 52mm 400 bar version suitable for 300 bar cylinders
  • Oxygen gauge for use on 232 bar cylinders and mixes up to 100% oxygen

There is nothing quite like the feel of a chunky SPG and these gauges from DIR Zone fit the bill perfectly. The 63mm 300 bar version especially is a lovely gauge, the larger size makes it easy to find when the left hip d-ring is cluttered with stage bottles and leashes and the larger face allows for easy reading. The smaller gauges are great for stage bottles and the lighter weight means the bottles are closer to neutral than negative when full, the smaller size minimises clutter on the left chest d-ring when two stage bottles are attached.

Reviews

63 mm SPG easy to grasp and excellent to readReview by Andrew
This is for the 63 mm SPG. I chose this one as my hip gauge on a twinset. Obviously the big diameter helps top read it, and also the 300 bar graduation ends in the south position, which means the gaps between increments are bigger than most gauges even of the same size (they are often at 360 on south position). Also, there's no distracting colour bands showing warnings or midzones or whatever, and the DIR logo is discreet -- so this also makes it easy to read. I'd call that a safety feature.

Just examined the glass, and I do find an extremely fine scratch after a few dozen dives with it, but so fine you can't really see it. All things considered, not bad. No problems fitting it, and in addition to being simple and easy to read, it's nice to get hold of when competing with a stage cylinder.

One tiny thing: many retailers are saying this same gauge is good for 230 bar, and that seems reasonable enough on a 300 bar gauge. But there's a sticker on the back that says max 200 bar. It's hard to say how this gauge couldn't manage 230 bar comfortably (and I fill a little higher to allow for cool-down), and it's possible that the rating dates from the times when 200 bar was the standard max. Just thought I'd mention it.

Oh, maybe I should mention that the orders I've placed with Aquanauts have been dealt with very nicely in all resects (promptness and comms), and I genuinely believe this is a good place to buy. (Posted on 15/03/2017)
