Spools & SMBs

The key to DIR dive kit is simplicity. How can a reel jam if it has no moving parts? This is why we use Spools for SMB deployment and for quick line jumps. A GUE diver will often have a spare DIRzone Spool in a pocket ready for use in case they need to perform a search, or redeploy a lost lift bag.

The SMBs we use will often depend on the environment in which we dive. If in rough open water you will often use a large SMB like the AP Valves SMB (closed). If the conditions are calmer then the Halcyon 3.3 Closed Circuit SMB will typically be the tool of choice. In this section we will also be including lift bags for those divers that need them.
