PADI Staff Instructor and GUE Tech 2 Diver, Brian Allen has been diving for 23 years since age 9. He is a keen wreck enthusiast and seasearch diver. Co-founder of Aquanauts Ltd, Brian has dived around the world before returning to his home town of Plymouth to set up the perfect UK dive centre. Brian is now responsible for keeping all of our equipment in order, and well serviced. With a focus on quality and safety you can be sure you are receiving the best training possible, with kit that can be relied upon in the most extreme of conditions.
Kirstie is completely Aquanauts trained . She is a keen UK diver but has also dived in Indonesia, the Canaries and Greek Islands. She recently earned her Assistant Instructor qualification, but still prefers to be thought of as a 'Dive Mistress'. A keen and published photographer and Seasearcher, she'd rather eat spider crabs than pet them.
Douglas Allen is the original founder of Plymouth Aquanauts, a BSAC club formed over 20 years ago. Run from his home in Derriford, he developed a unique environment from which his children created the shop and dive centre. Having taught for years he is now semi-retired although he is the skipper of 'Outcast' and you'll often see him hanging around making sure his kids are behaving themselves.
Andy started diving in 1997 with the BSAC. He joined Aquanauts in early 2007 when he crossed over to PADI on the Rescue course. He loved diving with us so much that he never left and has gone up through the ranks until achieving the exalted status of Open Water Scuba Instructor in Feb 2010. Andy's diving trips have included Gibraltar, West Oz, Bali and hopefully he will be joining us for this years club Red Sea trip!!
Tony is one of our senior Dive Masters. He gets great pleasure from introducing new people to the underwater realm and performs many of our 'Try Dive' sessions.
Paul trained with Guildford BS-AC in 1990. He is a BS-AC Advanced Diver and OWI and held the position of Diving Officer for 7 years. He is also a keen technical diver holding various qualifications from GUE, TDI and IANTD. Lured from the safe backwaters of Guildford by YD's own Plymouth seductress "Kirstie", he crossed over to become a PADI instructor and is now an IDC Staff Instructor and DSAT TEC 40 instructor. Now Aquanaut's main instructor, Paul plays a part in the training of all our Students.
Well what can we say - arrived at our door four years ago pleading poverty as a poor mature student - showed him a bit of kindness and now we cant get rid of him!
Still he has developed over that time as he has finally nearly passed his degree in Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology and is both a PADI and BSAC Instructor.
Uniquely qualified to teach cleaning other peoples dry suits, and how to lose keys !
