Plymouth's Diving is some of the best in the country, rivaled only by the likes of Scapa Flow in the Orkney's.
We have more wrecks per mile of coastline around Plymouth than anywhere else in the rest of the world, and as such the diving here is extremely varied. From gentle reef, to stark amazing drop offs consisting of granite boulders and cliffs falling away to extreme depths. As Plymouth Divers we are extremely lucky to have such awesome conditions consisting of an average of 5-8m visability inshore, extending to 30m+ on our offshore sites.
At Aquanauts, we have created a working dive centre in the heart of Plymouth that should be able to cater for all your diving needs.
The centre is located on an ideal site in the Barbican area of Plymouth's city centre, next to the pontoons where our boat is moored. Our pool is located in a large property in Derriford on the outskirts of Plymouth and our facilities include a purpose built 3m deep pool, sauna, shop, lecture room, large equipment store, and the all important refreshments fridge. We have 30 sets of equipment, 2 boats, torches, video equipment , first aid kits and emergency oxygen. We also run a non-profit making club with over 150 well looked after members.
John grew up in Leicester literally 5 minutes from Stoney Cove and it was there that he took his first dive. Icicles dripping off him didn't put him off. He has dived around the world including, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and of course the UK. It was whilst living in Australia that he completed my professional training and he is currently a PADI OWSI and EFR Instructor. John's passion for diving, the ocean and seeing the look on students faces when they have completed their first dive and loved it is reflected in his instruction. After two years living "down under" he has returned to what he feels is best part of the world in order to study Environmental Sciences at Plymouth University and eat pasties.
John has also taken on the role of Club Environmental Officer for Aquanauts.
Working for aquanauts is an incredible experience, a lot of fun, and you can get some serious diving done.
We only recruit Diving Instructors into paid positions, however there are often key roles in the dive club available that offer completely free diving in exchange for a few hours of your time each week.
We are not actively hiring, but we do occasionally need freelance OWSI Instructors. We pay £60 per day or £7.50 ph. If interested please send in a speculative CV to
