The Halcyon Flare Handheld builds on the reputation of the Halcyon Focus and Flare canister lights to deliver an incredible amount of light in a compact form factor. The Focus and Flare lights are well know for their exceptional build quality, ease of use and the ability to produce a beam of light at such a quality that it can wash out 18w and 21w HID lamps, which were typically heralded as the benchmark in primary lighting.
The Flare Handheld takes the same LUX driver found in the Focus and Flare lights and combines it with a high capacity li-ion battery pack. The output of the Flare hand held at 1m is 11,500 lux, 1700 lux at 3m and 650 lux at 5m; if these numbers don't mean much to you then check out the video below for an explanation. The beam has been designed to provide a semi-tight spot that is good for signalling at a distance but doesn't wash out a subject at close range. A peripheral halo illuminates enclosed spaces such as caves and wrecks.

The Halcyon Flare Hand Held is powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery pack providing 2.5 hours burn time on high power and more on low power. The light is charged by simply plugging in the supplied charger and placing the torch end down in the cradle. There is no need to open canisters, remove batteries, worry about temperature, simply plug and go. This also means that there are no o-rings to worry about, the light is completely sealed needing very little maintenance for use. The switch is magnetic which means that there isn't an extra hole water could get in through, the control is all done through the casing.

The handheld Flare features a number of novel features that make it an ideal primary light for all divers as well as a full power backup for more demanding dives. A folding goodman handle is fitted as standard which can be adjusted for any hand size, ideal for divers who may be sharing the light or often change the thickness of their gloves. The handle can also be folded completely flat making the light extremely compact, providing the ability for it to be put out of the way in a pocket. The handle also features attachment points for a boltsnap and a bungee thumb loop, ideal for scootering divers. A second attachment point near the rear of the battery provides the perfect place for a loop of bungee for temporarily stowing the light while in use. Solid handles are available for personal preference.
