Most divers will know a thing or two about Apeks. Known as the UK’s ‘technically inspired’ diving brand, Apeks is at the forefront of diving innovation and technology. Though this scuba diving brand is probably best known for its dive regulators, these are just the start when it comes to what they offer.

Formed in the mid-1970s by Ken Smith Ainscough and Eric Partington, friendship is at the core of Apeks’ foundations. The two mates joined forces in a garage in the North of England and started with small projects before diving into their first regulator in 1978. The friendship has certainly expanded in recent years and the boys rapidly outgrew their garage space, but Apeks has always stayed close to its roots and remains at home in Lancashire even today. They are now part of the Aqualung family, but the core values of shared knowledge and expertise are still very much alive, resulting in Apeks products being a firm favourite for many divers today.
Apeks have certainly earned their ‘technically inspired’ tagline. The production facilities at the Apeks factory are world-class, and the brand’s close-knit roots mean that they have total control of each aspect of the manufacturing process. This means that Apeks products are really built for a challenge, and we’re not just talking regulators here. Apeks dive computers, gauges and BCDs are all at the very forefront of modern innovation in diving, so it’s no wonder that they are the preferred supplier for the military and many emergency services in the UK.
Since launching the lightest regulator in existence in 2009, Apeks have got themselves a bit of a reputation for breaking boundaries and winning awards. Regulators like the ATX have been featured in many depth records around the world and continue to win awards for their quality and durability. No list of the top Apeks products would be complete without mentioning one of their award-winning regulators. The RK3 range of fins are Apeks’ best known, with the RK3 HD fins being the latest in this innovative product line. These ones are made from a higher density model than standard fins, making them particularly suitable for high-performance drysuit diving.
Apeks’ technical expertise is clear even in their diving essentials, just take the VX1 dive mask as an example. Apeks masks are built to perform in the way you actually want your mask to perform, with a lightweight and frameless design and great optical clarity. You’ll certainly be able to see spectacular marine life with the VX1 and need not worry about fit fatigue as the frameless construction minimises pressure during a long dive.
